ANSA provides a broad range of transport
planning and traffic engineering services. ANSA offers these services at
different levels of study involvement from technical/managerial reviewing roles
or training/support roles, through to undertaking complete studies.
The list of services below is not definitive but highlights key
services that are available from ANSA throughout the lifecycle of a transport
planning study.
-
Study Methodology and Specifications
-
ANSA has considerable experience
at the different stages of transport planning studies and as such is in a
strong position to produce independent Study Methodology and Specifications
that represent best value for either public sector or private sector
clients. This could be for isolated stages in a study or could
represent the entire study lifecycle. For public sector clients this
could involve preparing study briefs and for the private sector this could
involve preparing bid documents.
-
Data Collection and
Travel Monitoring Systems
-
The key
to any study is to specify data requirements at a level consistent with the
expected level of accuracy of the overall study conclusions and that
minimises cost, including making best use of existing data, for example 2001
Census Data. Any data collection needs to be integrated with future
data monitoring to provide a complete system that allows the success of
implementing study recommendations to be measured and provides for future
updates of planning tools. ANSA can help design Data Collection and
Travel Monitoring Systems that can be used long after the completion of
initial studies. ANSA also offer a traffic surveys service.
Survey data is collected through video data capture or telephone
interviewing, and entered directly into the Information Manager and
Telephone Interview Surveys database systems. Internal quality control
and model export procedures are used to streamline subsequent model
development
-
Macro Transport Modelling
-
Macro Transport Modelling
involves modelling grouped packages of vehicles and passengers, and includes
both transport infrastructure supply and passenger demand. ANSA can
provide strategic, local and junction based solutions for macro modelling
using: ANSA's own macro transport model, Transport Manager; using third
party packages such as CUBE, TRIPS, SATURN, TRANSYT, OSCADY, ARCADY, PICADY; or
using more specialised strategic models such as START and TRAM. The
modelling of traveller choices, such as mode of travel or time of travel,
can also be undertaken using spreadsheet or database packages.
-
Micro Transport Modelling
-
Micro Transport Modelling
involves modelling individual vehicles and uses a complete representation of
transport infrastructure supply. ANSA is a leading user of the
PARAMICS microsimulation software and has been involved in developing models
including individual junctions, large town centres sections of city centres
and small towns.
-
Scheme Development and Appraisal
-
ANSA Scheme Development and
Appraisal can be fully multi-modal and includes both Transport Strategy
Development and Transport Plan Development. At the strategic level
ANSA can develop and appraise Transport Strategies following central
government guidelines, such as GOMMMS, and using best practice to help
select preferred strategies, using established appraisal methods such as
NATA. Strategies can then be translated into sets of local Transport
Plans that can also be subjected to a similar, but more detailed,
development and appraisal process.
-
Transport Assessments
-
ANSA can deal with the transport
elements of planning applications from early conceptual design through to
detailed planning, which includes any type of development, and on-site and
off-site transport arrangements. For public sector clients this could
involve integrating individual assessments within an assessment framework
developed to consider the combine affects of 'Developments Scenarios'.
- Junction Design
-
ANSA can provide detailed
transport solutions that include producing outline and detailed designs of
traffic junctions. Designs are based on maximising safety, and
optimising operational performance and cost. Junctions can be
developed on an individual basis or grouped to represent interconnected
junctions. Both Fixed Time and Variable Time Signal Plans can be
developed, including the development of SCOOT type systems.
-
Software Development
-
Existing software tools do not
always provide an efficient method to undertake certain types of intense,
repetitive problem analysis. In such situations ANSA can offer a wide
range of Software Development services using a wide range of development
environments. This could include developing small adhoc analysis
programs to developing complex modular based transport suites of programs.
-
Database Development
-
Certain types of analysis need to
be able to efficiently handle, store and catalogue large quantities of data
and provide multi-user interfaces. This often leads to the development
of database type systems for which ANSA offers a comprehensive service of
Database Development, including subsequent maintenance and user support.
